First Edition 'Snow Bound' by John Greenleaf Whittier 1866 Ticknor and Fields
I was super thrilled to find this book during my recent trip to the Midwest. It is always exciting to find an antique book but to find a First Edition of a John Greenleaf Whittier classic was truly wonderful. This is a First Edition printed in 1866 by Ticknor and Fields of Boston. It is inscribed on the inside "To Father from Carrie Sept. 27, 1866." It is also dated inside as shown in the photos. The boards are a dark green with gilt lettering and the gilt remains nice on the front with a bit of wear to it on the spine. There is tanning and some foxing to the frontispiece, tissue guard and here and there but in a much lesser degree. However, the binding remains nice and tight. The front upper corner has a curl to it and each corner shows wear as well as age appropriate shelf wear to the edges. It measures 5" by 7.25".
