Chalcedony, according to one source, is said to "promote generosity, benevolence and responsiveness." All chalcedony is a microcrystalline variety of quartz, and includes stones that go by many other names, such as carnelian, jaspers, bloodstone, and agates. One member of the chalcedony family, agate, is formed from long strands of quartz, and tends to be translucent rather than opaque. Agates (such as these) are quite varied, and often manifest banding, such as those in this item. Used as talismans and amulets for thousands of years, agates are believed to eliminate negativity from one's aura, stimulate creativity and analytical thought. Like jasper, agate is considered a "cooling," receptive, yin stone, and considered a helpful aid for balancing an excess of yang or projective energy, and is a very grounding stone.

In addition, chalcedony acts, as quartz, on the Crown Chakra, bringing bright universal Light into one's heart and actions.

The spiral is one of our most ancient symbols, found carved on megalithic stones in the Orkneys, to the ruins of ancient Knossos in Greece. Spirals represent both matter forming, the inward-turning, and the ascent into Spirit, spiral releasing, or matter evolving into Spirit. Symbolic representations of this Mystery can be traced to the Yin-Yang symbol, where the dot within the one half (the magatama) is actually a point of spiralling out or into the other polarity. One can find this same movement on the Kabalistic Tree of Life, in the depiction of the Serpent (sacred symbol of Earth energy) coiled around Yggdrasil, the World Tree, and in the double spirals carved on the quite ancient megalithic stones throughout the lands of the ancient Celts (Keltoi, to the Romans, meant "the People," during Roman occupation and the migration of the European Celts to join with their near kin in the Isles.

The spiral is the cone of power raised in Magick Circles as well, worked to focus and send out energy to bring the Intent into being on this Plane. This symbol of continuity, of eternal evolution, devolution, and back to becoming again is so universal that we instinctively reach towards Spirit with it....
