Here we have a fine example of a Victorian love token charm. Crafted by hand from an authentic Canadian coin The artist has smoothed out one side and applied a fantastic and elaborate script.
I believe the initials to be AGC but take a close look to be sure. The tiny coin measures 5/8'' in diameter. Back in the day these little treasures were given as love tokens to adorn bracelets and watch chains. They are fascinating collectibles and can be traced as far back as the 16th century. At that time a bent copper coin was given as an intention of marriage. In the 19th century silver coins were used by the upper class while copper was still the coin of choice by the less fortunate.
