This is a spectacular porcelain plaque - truly a "painting on porcelain". The artist has painted a religious figure - it may be Mary, mother of Jesus, or some other Saint, but it is a Saint as the shoulders and head are illuminated by a halo effect. This beauty looks completely handpainted, in my opinion. The face shows gentle, kind features, long, wavy hair, delicately crossed hands and soft robes. One of the most impressive parts of this lovely plaque is the rich, deep color of the outer robe draped over the figure's arm. It's deep, deep royal blue colors are impossible to photograph to it's best effect. My pictures do absolutely no justice to this beauty, but I did my best. It is a wonderful, one of a kind piece.
The plaque itself measures about 3 3/8" long and 2 3/4" wide. Framed, it measures about 5 1/2" long and 4 3/4" wide.
I have had this professionally framed in a Florentine style gold wood frame; very ornate and fitting the subject beautifully. The matting is of deep royal blue suede and it is finished off with museum glass to make a spectacular piece to display on an easel or to hang. It is an exquisite painting.
