An antique porcelain plate featuring a transfer portrait of The Angelus which was a prayer typically done three times a day while the church bells would toll the time. The color is a chocolate brown highlighted by gold overlay of filigree and curls on the rim. This is detailed and highlighted in certain areas with white enameling. The original painting was done by Jean Francois Millet.
Hallmarked with a gold beehive and gold Royal Vienna on the backside tells us that this was made right at the turn of the 20th Century by a Vienna Austria factory.
Measures 9.5" diameter; we see age related wear at the very rim but there is no damage to porcelain. We have priced this accordingly. A beautiful display piece. Look for the companion plate in our shop.
