This gorgeous antique Victorian romance book has a lovely lady in winter garb and snowshoes paste down illustration on the cover. The illustration is detailed and lovely, though unsigned, it is equal to Gibson or Harrison Fisher's works. This book was by L.T. Meade, a prolific Victorian writer, and published by Donahue Co. This is undated but circa early 1900s. The virtuous heroine Hope does get her true love at the end of the book, but the road there is paved with uncertainties and hardships! There is a story at the end titled "The Balloon-Hoax" by Edgar Allen Poe.

This book measures app. 7.5"x5" with 241 pages plus the Balloon-Hoax and advertising afterwards. This is in good+ condition with some corner, edge, wear and bumping. This was given as a Christmas gift so an inscription is inside. The inside is clean overall and there are no offensive odors. The binding is tight and all pages intact.What a lovely old piece for display and reading!
