This very scarce portfolio of prints from the paintings of Robert Thom was published in 1956 by Parke, Davis & Company for distribution to Pharmacies and Drug stores to use as store art. There are 2 series of 6 fine large prints each with the written history behind each artwork, with original portfolio cover pages, all in fine to very fine condition. Each print image measures approx. 12" by 15.75" with wide white borders.
The remarkable series is from a group of 40 oil paintings known as Great Moments in Pharmacy, which had its origins in the mind of a single pharmacist , George Bender during the Great Depression. Nurtured for more than a decade, and pursued with fervor for 20 years after that, the idea led to the creation of these Robert Thom paintings and the accompanying stories, which for nearly 70 years have used the tools of art and narrative to present highlights of the most important events in the ancient profession of pharmacy.
