Carte de Visite Album & 22 CDV Civil War Washington Lincoln Mourning Mary Lincoln Generals Poets
The Carte de Visites are very good/fine inside the album. are 22 Civil War scarce Carte de Visites, each identified in the index and on the album page. The first is the very scarce Apostasies (Glorification) of Lincoln depicting Washington carrying Lincoln to heaven. It was produced one week after the assassination of Lincoln by artist Stephen J. Ferris and published by J. A. Arthur of Philadelphia.
The next 2 are Lincoln and then Mary Lincoln. Following are Civil War Generals: General Grant, Major General Dix, Maj. Gen. Dix, Maj. Gen Sherman, General Sheridan, Major General Thomas, and Admiral Farragut, General Porter, General Burnside, and Maj. General Hancock.
Also included: Cabinet members Salmon P. Chase, Lincoln's Secretary of the Treasury 1861-1864; Secretary of War Edwin Stanton; and Secretary of State Wm. Seward. Major Poets of the period include Beecher and Longfellow. If I am reading the last one right it is artist William Milton.
We are limited to only nine pictures but you can email us for pictures of the other ones not shown. We have not removed them from the album for fear of hurting the CDV's, so we do not know if there is signatures or writing on the backs. Serving you for over 30 years, we work hard to find unique antiques and heirlooms at reasonable prices. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us!
