Fabulous Murray Slater Designed Dagger Brooch—Brunialti Book Piece This wonderful Sterling vermeil brooch was designed by Murray Slater for the New York Urie Mandle Jewelry Co. It is pictured and described in Brunialti's Book "American Costume Jewelry 1935-1950". The Patent No. 146,950 was applied for in 1946 and granted in 1947. This Fleur-de-Lis designed dagger is decorated with pave set faux pearls and clear rhinestones and a large marquise shaped, prong set ruby rhinestone. The scabbard or sheath has a black enamel background, with bezel set faux pearls and pave set rhinestones. The dagger comes out of the sheath and is attached by a double link chain. Both sheath and dagger have pinbacks that work perfectly. This allows both sheath and dagger to be worn as a double brooch or chatelaine. This brooch is unsigned, as many identical brooches are found. I have an identical model that is signed with the "Mandle" signature and "Pat. Pend." SIZE – When the dagger is in the sheath, it measures approximately 4" long and 1 1/4" across at handle. CONDITION - The brooch is in fine, vintage, pre-owned condition! The black enamel shows no wear and all stones are original. One stone is slightly dulled and there is one missing pave set rhinestone on the end of the sheath, so it is not noticeable. The gold wash is in excellent condition. The pins, with roll over clasps function well. This is a brooch that commands attention, a real STATEMENT piece. It is rare to find this brooch in such immaculate condition. Almost always, there is enamel and/or gold vermeil wear present. This is such a beauty, it is guaranteed to fully meet all your expectations.
