Elegant c1910 Edwardian Silk Dress Gown *S

The fabric is a cross between a silk jersey and crepe. It has a low lustre surface, and drapes beautifully. I think it quite unusual for this period.

The bodice is beautifully draped over the bust with many soft gathers at the shoulders, and at the center above the bust. It features an inner lining with long boning. It hooks in the back.

The top above the bust, and lower sleeves are black embroidered net lace. The sleeves are fitted with a soft pouf around the lower part of the upper arm. This is created under the straighter over sleeve.

The dress has a wide cumberbun at waist which narrows and hooks in the back.

The skirt is 2 layers, with the under layer being a Princess cut skirt which drops to a gracefully full hem. It has 2 deep flounces under it at the bottom of the lining. There is an overskirt that is smartly cut....A line and straight across hem in front, dropping to points on the sides.

The entire gown features many hand done details. It is obviously created by a fine dressmaker and for a woman of considerable means.

CONDITION: Overall excellent vintage condition. There are holes to the embroidered net, and to the lining net underneath. Still in lovely wearable condition.
