18K Yellow & White Gold Diamond Modernist Designer Band

It's really difficult to photograph. Imagine a narrow, flat, yellow gold band, with an oblong hole cut in it to allow for better refraction. Add two "fences" on each side - oblongs which are not visible at the bottom - just part of the band, but which gradually rise and extend above the band on each side, getting progressively larger at the top, but which are then cut off flat across the top. The base band is like a river running between two canyon walls. The diamonds are completely enclosed in white gold tubes, open at the top and bottom, which are mounted at the top of the "canyon" walls, forming a bridge over the "river" of gold below, with about 1mm of air space above the "river" - the basic gold band. This not only makes a very cool designer look, it allows plenty of light to the stones, which sparkle brilliantly - much brighter than typical bezel set diamonds. This artisan goldsmith came up with a brilliant solution to an age old problem - prongs allow light, but have many undesirable inherent problems, yet bezel settings don't allow the necessary light to allow the diamond to shine. This ring is truly the best of both worlds.

This is clearly a custom designed ring, handcrafted by a true artisan. It's fine art for your hand, and will make a wonderful heirloom to pass on. European Design - very unique. Solid Yellow Gold with white gold bezel mounts and three fine quality Genuine Diamonds.

It's hard to get an accurate grade or carat weight of diamonds in a setting - especially a bezel setting - but these are probably 1/4 ct total weight - or at least 20 pts. Being conservative, the center stone is at least 10 pts, flanked by 2 minimum 5pt. natural Diamonds. The bezel mountings are 18K white gold, and are very tall - like tubes of white gold - the full depth of the stones. Diamonds are lovely, with lots of flash and sparkle, no inclusions visible to the naked eye - very clear even under the loupe, SI and very good color in the J - K range. Very secure easy to wear smooth bezels - no prongs to wear out or catch on anything.

Stylized setting is squared off flat on top, with two narrow bands of gold upon which diamonds are mounted, raised above the actual band - very cool effect. The diamonds are set in a straight row across the flat top, while the round band continues underneath. The diamonds essentially "float" on about 1 mm of free space. Definitely an artsy, designer, custom ring. Looks Italian - maybe just because I think all the best jewelry designers are in Italy, and because it's 18K, the European standard, which translates into almost 25% more pure gold than 14K. No marks to indicate origin.

Excellent Estate Condition - Minimal Wear. There is some very minor pitting viewable in high resolution photos and under the 10x loupe, which appears to be manufacturing remnants, probably indicating this was created by "lost wax casting" - a wonderful older technique - unlike mass produced contemporary offerings. Otherwise, nothing to note. This is a great ring.
