1940 Trifari Glass Pearl Necklace Choker Rhinestone Sterling Clasp

This gorgeous double strand choker from Crown Trifari dates 1942-1943, the late Art Deco period, and the only years sterling clasps with "PAT. PEND." were used. A true, rare collector’s piece! The stunning clasp, laden with 32 round and 5 baguette rhinestones, is a masterpiece of style and function, featuring an ingenious expandable clasp, so the “choker” won’t live up to its name. The hidden spring mechanism in the clasp allows an extra inch of breathing room.

The 8mm simulated pearls are made of glass, for natural weight, with beautiful luster and a lovely champagne color. Knotted between each individual pearl. They look and feel like like the finest cultured pearls - it is only due to the Trifari signature that I know they aren‘t!

Measures 13" total length, with an extra inch expansion.

Marked Trifari in the tall elongated letters that distinguished the 1940’s, with a crown above the “T”, and “sterling.” The sterling has been plated with “Trifanium”, sometimes incorrectly called “Trifarium” for obvious reasons. It is a Trifari rhodium plating which gives the silver the look of white gold or platinum, patented in 1944. That dates this to either 1942 or 1943, the only years this would have been "PAT. PEND." By 1944, the patent had been approved.

An important collector piece. Worthy of investment!

You'll find plenty of Trifari before and after 1942 - 1943, but this is an extremely rare find! Trifari sold the Trifanium patent to several other fine companies, including Napier and Coro. Trifanium was the original coating which brought costume jewelry out of the gold wash era, and into the realm of fine jewelry. This was one of the earliest examples of Trifanium - a rare find!
