I love this piece. It is a French carved dog circa 1860-1880. It is a very intricate and detailed carving of a bird dog sitting on a pillow with a mallard in it's mouth. This is mounted on an original wooden pedestal and is not removable. Both the dog and mallard have brown glass eyes. The detail of the carving is very well executed. There is a small age line between the dog's eyes which is average wear for an antique piece. The patina is excellent. The dog alone measures about 4 ¼ inches at the longest point and about 1 ¾ inches at the widest point of the pillow. The pillow is also carved to flow down over the back of the pedestal. The overall height with the pedestal is 6 ¼ inches. This carving would make an impressive addition to your collection.
