This is a very beautiful Victorian bronze jewel casket Circa 1880. It is embellished with an ornate and intricate design including birds, fruit, flowers and cherubs with a full bodied figural deer at the top of the hinged cover. The interior has the original silk lining and bronze caps. The clasp clips together and works fine holding the cover tight to the footed box. It measures 9 1/2 " at the widest part of the footed base and 7 1/2 " deep by 9 1/2 " to the top of the deer's antlers. It weighs 5.8 lbs. The patina is excellent and just what you would expect from a piece over 100 years old. It is signed on the base with two words that are hard to distinguish and then Makers Chicago, please refer to photos. This is only the second bronze box of this nature that I have seen in 47 years in the antique business. A wonderful example of the Victorian Era and worthy of keeping your finest treasures.
