Here is a wonderful hand embroidered doily. It is slightly oval, nearly round, in shape with a scalloped edge. Society silk embroidery developed as a hobby, almost an art-form, in the early 1900s. The name derived from its favor among "society" ladies. Floral designs stamped onto off-white linen were sold to be embroidered. Some artistic ladies created their own designs.
This piece is beautifully decorated with four groups of berries, leaves and stems, and four flowers or blossoms. The colors used are primarily green-gold, lavender and pink. The scalloped edge is stitched in ecru.
This lovely collectible measures approximately 16"W x 15"H and is in very good condition.
