This delightful pin is so cute & with a very unusual theme. The figural climbers & pin parts are of 18kt yellow gold with the ice & snow steep mountain trail being comprised of 31 small diamonds with an approx. total caret weight of 60 pts. The climbers are approx. 9/16" tall & appear to be cast with some hand finished applied work. With your eyes you can see the men have long beards, good body movement with folds in their clothing & each with a basket on their back. A very unusual piece that is cleverly done.
The gold is all intact with no rips, cracks or known repairs. With very close inspection you can find with a 10 power loupe a few 1/64" or smaller indents (not quite holes) that are original to the casting of the tiny figures that I am reporting to be accurate. They do not go thru the figures, but are just surface spots. The top of the mountain trail has a very very thin surface of either white gold or platinum with mil-grained edge rims. We do not believe it to be silver as it is not tarnished. We will not test it to discover it's composition as the test will destroy the viewing of the white metal surface. On the backside of the pin you can see a couple rub marks from previous acid tests as expected. The hinged pin stick & trumpet clasp are believed to be the originals. They are in smooth working order with the pin stick having a very light wave due to usage. The diamonds appear to all be original with the exception of maybe one which looks a hair larger. It is hard to be sure as they are all mounted with crimped & applied rims. The backside of each of the climbers baskets have have tiny hooks applied (see photo # 5). These are for a chain to be inserted to enable the owner to use the pin as a pendent.
The pin measures approx. 2 1/8" long x approx. 5/8" tall with the diamond trail in a straight horizontal line not angled as pictured. We can find no hallmarks or gold content marks. Rich has acid tested & will guarantee a minimum of 18kt. We believe the pin to be of European origin & date to mid 20th. century due to the hand work. Because of the lack of marks the pin may be a custom piece. A great pin-pendent for a woman who enjoys unusual jewelry or even for that mountain climbing man's lapel.
