14Kt. Gold, Diamond & Synthetic Sapphire Ring - Circa 1920

This ring is just delightful & perfect for that woman with small hands or slender fingers. It also looks great on a larger hand, tested on mine, as a pinky ring. The decorated top area is approx. 5/8" long x 5/16" (thru the center). It holds 2 round diamonds of approx. 10 pts. each & a square cut, faceted, blue sapphire which we believe is a synthetic man made stone.

The European cut diamonds both appear to be the originals in their prong mountings. The synthetic sapphire is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or deep scratches & is a hair over 1/8" sq. in size. It also appears to be original to ring as we see no disruption to it's rope like rimed collar mounting. The use of synthetic blue sapphires, as well as other colored stones, in precious metals was quite common in this period so we are not surprised to see it.

The mounting is in excellent condition with no rips, holes, dents, cracks, deep scratches or repairs. It has lovely filigree work around all 4 sides of the top. The top of the ring appears to be platinum, either plated or a thin annealed layer, the balance of the mounting being 14k yellow gold. To test the platinum for confirmation Rich would have to take a rubbing which could remove some of that fine layer down to base gold. He does not want to take the chance of damaging the ring's appearance. But with almost 40 years of experience he is sure it is platinum due to it's distinctive coloration. The ring has no marks but Rich has acid tested the balance of the ring & will guarantee a minimum of 14kt. The ring's measurement is an approx 4 1/2 & shows evidence of having been sized which is common. A great 20's ring for a woman or teen who appreciates vintage jewelry at a super price.
