This exquisite hamsa hand is beautifully detailed with filigree. The hand measures 11x19mm, not including the ring bail. It is bezel set with an opal cabochon that is 5mm in diameter. A beautiful opal that has prismatic colors of turquoise with hints of green, yellow, and pink.
I dropped it from a 16" 14K Gold Filled chain. The chain has a spring clasp and a 'Theresa Mink' signature tag attached.
Matching bracelet is also available in my shop.
Hamsa hand jewelry, as well as evil eye jewelry, is very popular with the celebrities. It is said to bring protection.
Hamsa From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The hamsa (Arabic: خمسة khomsah, also romanized khamsa, meaning lit. "five") is a palm-shaped amulet popular throughout North Africa, and commonly used in jewelry and wall hangings. Depicting the open right hand, an image recognized and used as a sign of protection in many societies throughout history, the hamsa provides superstitious defense against the evil eye. It is also known as the hand of Fatima, so named to commemorate Muhammad's daughter Fatima Zahra. Levantine Christians call it the hand of Mary, for the mother of Jesus. Following its incorporation into Jewish tradition via its widespread use in the Islamic world, it was also renamed the hand of Miriam for Miriam, sister of Moses.
