Offering an antique, framed lithograph from my aunt's estate. This is a magnificent, hand colored lithograph taken from St. George Mivart's; A Monograph of the Lories or Brush Tongued Parrots.
That book was published in London 1896 by R.H. Porter, and it contained 61 hand-colored plates by John Gerrard Keulemans. Only 250 copies of the book were ever produced.
This lithograph was taken from one of those books. Directly underneath the colored picture it reads; The Purple Bellied Lory - Lorius Hypoenochrous - Published by R. H. Porter. On the top left hand corner is written; The Loriidae. On the top right hand corner is written; Plate XVI. Under the lowest branch the plate is numbered 3/4 and to its right it is signed in pencil JGK , the initials of the artist.
The frame is wood, painted black and delicately edged in gold. It measures 17" X 20 1/2" and is 1" deep. The lithograph is matted and under glass and the visible portion of the colored plate is 9 1/4" X 11 1/2".
This stunning piece has no damage other than that the edges of the paper of the litho are somewhat yellowed with age. No tears, foxing or stains. Beautifully framed and ready to hang.
This hung in my aunt's home next to another matching Mivart lithograph of the Chattering Lory, taken from the same book. That piece is listed separately.
