Vintage 1920 Stunning Needlepoint Picture Portrait in Hand Carved Wood 32” Frame

Offering a large, vintage, wool needlepoint tapestry picture. Both picture and background are fully stitched in.

The picture is off of a painting by George Romney (1734 - 1802) and features a little girl in a bonnet named Juliana Willoughby. She was six years old.

The needlepoint tapestry is magnificent in the amazing detail of the workmanship, the blending and variation of colors. There are no pulled out, or bug eaten threads and the colors are soft, as if the wool was naturally dyed.

This needlepoint tapestry measures a whopping 18 ½" x 24".

The tapestry was stretched and mounted in a simple gold frame which was then set onto a silk matted surface, which in turn was set into a huge hand carved, solid wood frame.

The frame dimensions are 32" X 26 ½".

The back is wood covered and there is an old tag that says: Royal Art Frames.

This belonged to my great aunt who owned some needlepoint tapestries (purchased in Europe, I think) and took them with her when she was assigned to a post in Asia in the 1950's (she was a diplomat). In the city of Manila, Philippines she had two of them framed and they hung in her home until she was reassigned. Then they went into storage here in the US, where I found them about ten years ago.

The wood frame is lightly nicked and chipped in places, but the tapestry and frame have no structural damage.

I have two needlepoint pictures from my great aunt, and they are listed separately. The other one is after the 18th century portrait of Margaret Ramsay, by the painter Allan Ramsay (the painting resides in the Scottish National Gallery).
