Here's a wonderful and different British Mid - 19th century snuff box. It's 3" long by 1 5/8" wide. The top has an embossed design with the saying - "He that lowers a brother does not elevate himself" - a powerful and very true thought. On either side of the saying are two great looking gentlemen ready for the hunt - one has a powder horn and the other holds a bow. Next to each man is a seated dog. The inside is tin lined and the lid closes securely. The curved sides of the box make it easy to hold. The overall condition is very good and it was definitely used in its day way back in 1870 or so. A great addition to a box or snuff box collection.
