Reed and Barton 1885 Italian Pattern Large Ladle Engraved
The Italian pattern in Reed and Barton silver plate was made in circa 1885. At the same time as their Bacchus pattern and Medallion. All three of these patterns had strong "faces" as the central point of the pattern. Both of the latter two patterns seem to be much easier to come across than the Italian pattern. I have seen this face described as a devil. To me he has a much different look no devil for me! The handle is also patterned with water lilies both the flower in full bloom bud and the pad. The ladle is engraved M H P This is a wonderful silver pattern, what a table it would set!
DIMENSIONS: 11" long bowl is 3 5/8" wide x about 1 ½" deep
CONDITION: It does have normal signs of wear such as the tiny heel mark and minor scratching from use. There is no pitting or extreme wear to the plate. I have polished it but polishing silver is not my way to zen so it could stand another polishing.
