Floral Hooked Rug New Hampshire Hand Hooked

The story of this rug is as wonderful as the piece itself. I purchased it from an elderly lady on the border of N.H. and Quebec, Canada. (name given to buyer) Her 73 year marriage gave her a life filled with many joys. Her husband was an avid fisherman and hunter. In the summer months while he was "off fishing" she stayed on her screened in front porch hooking rugs for their home. Not long after this rug was completed her husband passed away. Now for the heart strings part of the story. During the winter of that year she decided that she did not want to "stand on" this rug but rather wanted to hang it as a picture so she could look at it and remember... She took one of her husbands wool shirts cut strips and bound the underside edge with the fabric. She cut old canning jar rubbers in half and sewed them in the bottom corners. After hand sewing rings on the edge, she took his bamboo fishing pole and used the center section as a rod to hang her tribute. I was so charmed by this lady and her love story. At the age of 92 with no children she was set to "sell off" some of her treasures. This rug was made from strips of wool fabric, like rugs were made at the turn of the last century. She told me that's how she learned to hook, so that's how she did it all her life. If you would like to use it on the floor you could certainly snip the rings off and lay it down, it is ready to be used and loved in either way, laying or hanging. This is SO NOT a new Made in China Rug!!
