Antique Georgian Green Paste 15K Mourning Cravat Pin Early 1800's
At 2 inches long, the flower head design measuring just over 3/8" (13 mm) by 3/8" (11 mm). We see eight extremely dazzling, green foil backed paste stones in a closed back gold setting. Each stone claw set around the outer edge. They surround a rectangular.... would you believe, bevelled glass panel housed within a gold bezel. Under this glass panel we see a minute piece of woven brown hair work. This must be just over 1/8" in size?? The gold pin has the lovely twists half way down its shank. These are to stop the pin sliding out from the cravat fabric.
Condition is excellent. The pastes are as bright now as they were 200 years ago. There is one minuscule, pin head size nibble to a stone at 11 O'clock. This tiny and therefore fragile little item has been cherished. How else could it have survived the last two centuries intact. So easily bent, so easily lost. We are delighted to be able to continue its journey.
