Antique 1700's Opaque Glass Beaker, Enamelled Milk Glass, Milchglas

A beautiful little opaque glass beaker from the last quarter of the 18th century. Hand blown in Bohemia (present day Germany) around the 1770 period and a very slightly heavier body than our other larger piece. This 3.25" high hand blown beaker has the most attractive floral decoration which is applied by hand in a 1.25" deep band around the beaker. Bright polychrome enamels are as bright today as when they were first applied, over 200 years ago. Pretty greens, pinks, blues and yellows; all the colors of springtime. A gilt edge around the rim and a curvaceous hand applied handle finish the appeal with this treasure. Having a rough pontil mark to the base and the usual irregularities and impurities associated with a genuine 18th century hand blown piece.

As is very common with these early pieces, condition is sadly as found. A vertical hairline runs down the entire height of the beaker. This has been historically restored and stabilised. Also some wear to the gilding. However, a charming little piece of 18th century German glass that is becoming more difficult to find, even with a perfectly stable hairline. It is the purity of color and naive decoration that pulls on our heart strings. Definitely a Bohemian rhapsody.
