Here for your buying consideration is an ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC large 25" early Covered Wagon Papier Mache. Circa 1850-60's.
Her face is gorgeous for a doll of this age! She has big blue eyes with large black pupils and finely painted black lines over the eyes. Her cheeks are brightly blushed, and she has a wonderfully painted crimson red mouth. She does have the smallest ding to her nose which can be seen in the pictures I have provided. When black lighted she shows small areas of "possible" touch up to her covered wagon hairstyle. When dolls of this age have old re-touch is hard to discern sometimes when using a black light. Her face is untouched.
This WONDERFUL doll is on her ORIGINAL MOTHER MADE heavy stuffed linen body! Her body has large oversized hands, fingers and feet. Which I find to be endearing features constructed by some sweet Mother, for some lucky little girl many, many years ago! Some tiny holes in her wrist and hand areas which can be seen in the pictures. Other than this her body appears to be in fabulous original and sturdy condition.
She wears a wonderful antique turkey red cotton dress, which is in AMAZING condition! Mother of Pearl buttons and hand sewn button holes are to the back of the dress. It's enhanced with attractive white feather stitching at the hemline, sleeve, and neck area. A sweet silk bow adorns her under her chin. Her antique underclothing consists of a pair of white cotton pantaloons with a matching waist skirt and an antique full length petticoat. She wears her original sewn on silk stockings and has sewn on black original shoes with black tassels. Her original sewn on shoes looked very worn so I have slipped on a pair of early, (but also worn) red leather shoes that match her dress. I think it gives her a charming good look!
