Here for your buying pleasure is an adorable antique multi-face Carl Bergner doll! Circa 1890 to 1909. Carl Bergner of Sonneberg, Thuringia, Germany applied for a patent for a turning dolls head in 1890. They were generally manufactured with three faces - a smiling face, a crying or disgruntled face, and a sleeping face. They were produced on composition and wooden or cloth bodies.
This bisque headed three-face example is precious! Her expressions are an expressive smiling face, a slightly disgruntled pout face, and a beautiful sleeping face! She has blue glass eyes in two of her faces. Her bisque on all three faces is just beautiful and very creamy looking! Her painting is finely executed on all of her faces. The sleeping side is painted very delicately and looks absolutely angelic! This three-faced bisque head is guaranteed to be free of any hairlines, manufacturer defects or invisible repairs. She has a tuft of hand-tied blonde hair glued to the top of her molded plaster cap. Her head turns by way of a brass ring at the top of the molded plaster cap. She is on a wonderful wooden body that once had a pull-string for crying that is no longer present. The body is marked to the back in blue D. R. P. It is in very nice condition for its age, showing only slight peeling and crazing to the original paint. She measures 14-inches in height.
She wears a long antique christening gown with a matching bonnet and long under-slip. The gown measures 33-inches In length! It is quite lovely with a lacey detailed bodice, and matching lace trim at the wrists, neckline and hemline of the gown. The gown closes with a string-tie closure to the back of the gown.
This doll is an exceptionally pretty one for this type of doll. She is in great condition and would be a beautiful addition to your doll collection!
