Vintage Gold Filled Hand Carved Shell Cameo Locket Pendant and Chain Necklace

This beautiful late 1940's WWII era locket has a wonderfully detailed ribbon shaped frame with a bezel set hand carved shell cameo. The genuine hand carved shell cameo depicts a graceful, smiling lady with a pretty flower corsage on her shoulder, which has nice dimension. It is slightly darker than most peachy shades, possibly sardonyx. This lovely color shows through the carving to highlight her lips, eyelid, hair, and flower, so pretty. It is a hidden back snap closed locket. It is from the Providence Stock Company, who made these wonderful lockets from 1890 to the 1950's, many in a military sweetheart theme, and a variety of facings, always with the trademark hidden back double locket. It is marked Pr. St. Co., 1/20-12KT on sterling on the back at the bottom of the locket door, and is suspended from a lovely gold filled chain. The 16 inch long, sturdy and graceful overloop chain is very nice, hallmarked 1/20 14 Kt GF and an A in a circle hallmark on the piece that attaches to the clasp, and a very rubbed 1/20 mark on the spring ring (hard to read it all). The locket is 1 and 1/8 inches tall, and 7/8 of an inch across. The snap bale adds another ¼ of an inch. The oval shaped frames that hold in the photos and the celluloid film covers are intact, with one paper backing. This marvel presents well and is in good condition with just a bit of vintage wear, more noticeable in the pictures than in person. There is an uneven spot along the bezel edge at the 10 o'clock top left; it is smooth to the touch. I can't tell if it is a chip that has been smoothed or if it that way from manufacture, and is priced accordingly. Her chest near the corsage has a few tiny lines of crazing I didn't see until I examined the magnified photos. The gold filled metal on both pieces has a warm vintage, age appropriate patina, yet is still shiny and bright. A lovely way to keep loved ones near your heart. So pretty, and just as sentimental today as all those years ago! A gorgeous, hard to find collectible memento of times gone by.
