Antique Paris Porcelain Inkwell Stand Signed Fleur de Lis Trinket tray Ormolu Gilt
There are no chips or cracks. The ormolu mounts are all in place and the inkwell hinge is in excellent working order.
The underside of the trinket tray and the inkwell are signed and there is a curious black ink mark where the signee tested the ink before signing the two pieces.
The inkstand is very well preserved and the only evidence that it was used is the tell tale blue ink stain on the inside of the hinge mount on the inkwell.
The inkwell and the tray are both exquisitely decorated with stylized Fleur de Lis. The blend of blue, red and lemon colors is very pleasing and adds to the beauty of this inkstand.
The pen rests are long necked birds and the four feet are similar birds. In the centre front, a mask of the Pharaoh supports the feet either side of it. The Egyptian theme is also evident in the bull rush on either side of the inkwell, a reference to the source of Papyrus paper in ancient Egypt.
The stand is 4 1/2 inches high and 5 inches wide and 5 inches deep.
