Spectacular Limoges France Hand Painted Porcelain Chocolate Set Complete ~Peonies~

I have to say right off.. This is the most spectacular Limoges Cocoa - Chocolate Set, I have ever had the pleasure of owning.. As you know with Antiques the fun is in the hunt. this came from a very elderly woman here in New England and was a cabinet piece for years.. Condition is Mint with only a tiny bit of wear to the gold. The Entire set is painted with Peonies. The colors are spectacular.. Pale Green background to all pieces then the gorgeous Peonies are painted front to back in a gorgeous pink.. The Plates and saucers have a scallop edge to them and then are trimmed in Gold.. If your looking for a wonderful set to add to your collection. This is "The Very Best" in my opinion..The Pot and Tray are marked with the Limoges marks.. the others are not marked which is not uncommon for this era,They are Signed by the artist.. I can only add 9 photos if you would like additional photos they are available upon request..

This complete set is as follows:

6 Dessert Plates 6"

6 Saucers 5"

6 Cups 1 3/4" x 2 3/4" Creamer 3" x 4 1/2"

William Guerin (1838-1912) was born near Limoges and trained in porcelain techniques. After military service, he rented a porcelain decorating workshop in the Faubourg Montjovis (Limoges) in 1836, doing export.

About 1872 Guerin took over the porcelain workshop of Lebron & Cie. Then in 1877 he bought the porcelain factory that had been established by Jouhanneaud and Dubois in Rue du Petit-Tour (Limoges), and which had been bought in 1867 by the Utzschneider Company of Saurregemines and run by Leopold Dubois. This enlarged company produced a wide range of wares, selling a lot of whiteware and also continuing decoration.

Guerin's sons William and Andre joined the company in 1903. In 1911 W. Guerin & Cie merged with the nearby Pouyat factory, buying 3/4 of Pouyat; the new firm became Guerin & Cie. Possibly both company marks were continued; in any case WWI greatly decreased output.

In 1920 or 1921 by Bawo & Dotter Ltd., owner of Elite name, bought Guerin & Cie and became Guerin Pouyat Elite, with Carl Bawo as technical director from 1923. The marks of all 3 firms continued to be used. The factory closed in 1932 and was demolished in 1933

L. and E. Coiffe Limoges porcelain factory operated from the mid 1870s to the mid 1920s and was a prolific producer of quality whiteware. Coiffe might also have done some decoration, but almost all of their porcelain was decorated by others.

L. Coiffe operated from the mid 1870s, E. Coiffe (the younger) took over in 1887, using the same marks.
