This is a beautifully carved Victorian Lava cameo set in 14K gold. Not hallmarked but tested for 14K. The carving is Bacchus known also as Dionysus, goddess of wine and fertility. Grapes and grape leaves in her hair. Typical Roman one shoulder dress. Very detailed face, facing left ( this is rare), roman nose. Elongated pinstem and high relief. The cameo measures 1 7/8" X 1 5/8". The back is very unusual in that there is a silver metal covering the cameo. So if there is a signature I cannot tell. The clasp has been changed to a safety at some point in the 20th century, but not by me. The color of this fine Lava cameo is my favorite deep Olive /brown. I would date this extraordinary Victorian Lava cameo at c1860's-80's. Condition is very good. No damage to cameo, no chips or damage to nose, no cracks to Lava. Clasp works fine. Darkening on the gold in the photo seems to be only camera shadow.
