The silver colored metal pieces in this set tend to quickly show surface wear. If there is any real silver actually plated onto the surfaces, the amount is very small. All the pieces of course bear no permanent markings that would help identify them as contemporary. But that characteristic itself becomes a clue, since it would be very unusual to find a true Victorian era silver-plated metal item to be totally unmarked as to maker or silver content.
