Czech Art Deco Style Red Perfume Bottle with Etched Lady Stopper
Perfume bottle collectors looking to buy only old authentic period perfume and scent bottles need to be aware that many different bottle designs first made in the 1920's through the 1940's were produced again in the 1990's, and many are still in production today. New designs that closely follow various period stylistic motifs, but which are entirely new, are also available. See our favorite links for an informative article on the new perfume types being produced and sold today as if their older counterparts.
The makers of these kinds of new glass perfume bottles sometimes clearly and permanently mark them, because their pieces are intended to be more an homage to the great glass designers of the past, rather than an attempt to encourage deception. But because novice collectors may not recognize marks on such pieces, nor be aware they are an indication an item is contemporary, mistakes can easily be made when purchasing on the secondary market.
Other makers only add paper labels. These could look older than they really are because they are reflective of a design used by the original company. They are also easily removed and once they are gone it may be extremely difficult to afterward identify who made an item, or when. In this listing we show the partial remnants of the maker's label left on the base of this modern bottle after an attempt was made to scrape it away, to make it harder to identify it as new. We also include an image of the label as it probably looked before it was defaced.
Bottle measures 5 1/2 inches tall; the base alone is 2 1/8 inches tall by 2 1/4 inches at its widest point. The stopper is just under 2 inches wide at the widest point.
