This example is a fantasy creation made to mimic the look of a circa 1950 "8 Ball" Electric Gas Pump from the Wayne Pump Co.. A red and white reproduction glass globe sits on top, to which realistic decals that advertise 'Mobilgas' gasoline have been applied. Mobil's winged horse motif is a perennial favorite with oil and gas collectors, but it is possible to order new glass globes of this kind with any number of different gasoline company decals applied, and different kinds of pumps, too. Some of these can be seen in the background of many pictures shown here.
This pump base has authentic looking details and it is painted in a prized red, white, and dark blue color combination. The bottom of this particular base has three chrome strip details, just like an original from the 50's. The gas pump hangs on the right side, but this item was never used to pump gas. It is entirely new from top to bottom.
Today many different reproduction pumps and globes covering all eras of the internal combustion engine transportation era can be purchased. Most are very well made, so where these types of collectibles are concerned it can be quite easy to mistake a completely new piece for an authentic example that has been 'restored'. This is one of the specialty areas where some study is required if one is intent on adding only authentic examples to their collection.
Measures 74 inches in height (58" without the globe); 21 inches across the front and 16 inches deep.
