14K White Gold~ Multi-color Natural Sapphire Necklace
GEM LORE:
Sapphires have long been considered a symbol of truth and consistency. As such, I have read, these gemstones are thought to encourage fidelity in marriage and in committed relationships.
Sapphires have often been used for improving people's health. In 1391 a sapphire was offered at St. Pauls in London on the stipulation that it was to be kept at the Shrine of St. Eskenwald to cure eye disease. Charles IV used an oval oriental sapphire for touching the eyes. Sapphire has long been thought to be able to remove impurites and foreign matter from the eyes.
A ram or a bearded man carved in a sapphire and worn as jewelry was said to free a person from poison and demons. The sapphire was said to have a magnetic force attracting all poisons from the body.
The three bands of the star sapphire have had an especial place in gemstone lore. For example, this gem has been known as the stone of destiny; the bands representing hope, faith and charity. As another example, the famous explorer of the 19th century, Sir Richard Burton, believed that his star sapphire brought him good horses and good services wherever he went. The reward for such service was a view of his star sapphire.
