Folk Art Kitchen Scene Painting from Jinshan County People's Republic of China

This original folk painting of a Chinese kitchen scene measures about 18" by 16" and is double-matted and is in a 26" by 25" frame under glass.

The painting is in a black frame and bears a Certificate of Authenticity on the back stating: "This is to certify that this painting is Original Primitive Peasant Art, Country of Origin Jinshan County, China imported exclusively for The Harris G. Strong Inc., Researched and collected by Michael Srednick," signed by Strong with a Chinese stamp.

The artist colony in Jinshan County is about two hours outside of Shanghai. Peasant painters in Jinshan get their painting supplies at the art center and some actually paint in studios at the art center, but many paint at home at night after working all day in the fields. Artists' paintings are sold through the art center.

The colony's paintings always depict life as colorful, happy scenes such as this kitchen scene. Two red stamps in the lower left may indicate the artist's name or just the colony.

It is in very good condition.
