Black inset behind the fanciful brass filigree is actually on the glass beneath the frame! When taken apart, the space between the two rows of brass is open. (See photo of both pieces set aside). I was quite surprised when I took it apart for a good cleaning after it had sat in a box for 60 years. Most unusual. Photo inside the frame is my parents taken in 1936, but that does not necessarily date the frame. Still, I suspect it is of that general vintage. Be sure to check out the close-up photos that show the frame detail. Just gorgeous.
If there was a paper label on the back of the frame, it is long gone. Holds an 8 x 10 photo. Velvet easel backing for table top display as well as a small brass ring for hanging. Photo is not included with the frame.
