In the Virginia Rose shape these two 10-inch plates are definitely by Homer Laughlin, although the back stamp is quite faded and almost impossible to read. The familiar Homer Laughlin symbol is recognizable as well as barely readable numbers that were stamped on the back of their pieces. The D-number appears to end with a zero (1930, 40, 50?) and is followed by N4, which would designate the location of its manufacture. This pattern is identified as Colonial Couple, but it is also known as Courting Couple or Victorian Couple.
The dancing couple accompanied by a flutist behind them was obviously a favorite. This same picture can also be found on Nasco China called Royal Queen and on Canonsburg China called Empress Chantilly or just Chantilly. Measure 10-inches. In very good condition, with only some manufacturing flaws on the back. Price is for both.
