Green Transferware Plate ~ CACTUS FLOWERS 1880
CACTUS FLOWERS WITH BIRDS
Choisy le Roi
Luneville, France
c 1880
This stunning earthenware transferware plate is a wonderful piece of 19th century transferware! The plate measures 9 " in diameter and is transfer printed in rare to find dark green.
It is imaginatively decorated with a pair of Songbird perched amongst the oversized Cactus flower clusters in full bud and bloom. Another songbird in flight passes nearby. The image is based on a gorgeous 19th century copperplate engraving. French aesthetic pottery is full of whimsy and usually birds, flowers or fruit.
The piece is in SPECTACULAR condition, clean shiny and bright. No chips, no cracks, no hairlines and no repairs. It is absolutely gorgeous - elegant and well potted, with richly detailed transfers reflecting the Victorian love of the nature.
