LARGE BROWN STAFFORDSHIRE TRANSFERWARE PLATE
CANOVA PATTERN
Thomas Mayer Potteries
Longport, Staffordshire, England
c. 1840
This plate measures 10 1/2 ” wide and is crisply transfer printed in a dark brown against a white background.
Wonderful scalloped edge. The central image depicts an etruscan vase or urn in a classical setting. The exquisite urn is surrounded by wonderful flowers and cartouches of exotic landscapes.
Never Used. Condition is great. A tiny speck of kiln dust to center well. The contrast and composition is especially beautiful in this rich brown transfer.
