For sale is this 7 jewel, American Waltham Watch Co. hunting case pocket watch with a working movement dating to 1906. The case measures 2" diameter and as you can see, it has a nicely etched floral image on both sides (20 year Philadelphia Watch Case). The hinges and crown work perfectly and are not weak or worn. The crystal is perfect, dial has two very small lines (see picture) and the movement has been running strong for more than 24 hours, but please keep in mind that it is more than 100 years old and will need a slight adjustment as it loses about 1 minute every hour. There were only 2,500 of model # 14839381 made.
A large number of older pocket watches were only marked guaranteed (or warranted) 5 years, or 10 years, or 25 years, etc. The number of years indicated how long the case was warranted to hold up before wearing through to the base metal. The higher the number of years, the more gold was used in making the case. Generally, a 20 year case would cost more than a 10 year case, because the gold layer would be thicker.
