Rare, Huge Bronze 19th Century Figural Tazza by the French sculptor Alphonse-Alexandre Arson (b.1822-d.1880). A spectacular departure from Arson's typical works of animal sculpture.
This cast bronze Tazza features a Full Figure Bird for the stem and a bird on nest sitting in the center of the top, with a Relief of birds in flight around the nest. The base is all embossed with a foliate vine. A very rare piece from this French artist.
The Tazza has undergone some needed restoration in the past, with removal of the original patina due to very heavy tarnish. There is no lacquer on the piece, so it has begun to gain a natural patina, which will only get better over time. Of course, one could have the patina restored chemically if desired. Signed with an impressed ARSON on the top.
Since listing this tazza, the finish has tarnished.
Measures 13-3/8W x 9-1/2H, and weighs 9-1/2 pounds.
