The authors take a penetrating look at their subjects, a fanciful journey to the gnomes' northern land in Lapland and Siberia.

They learn of the tender emotional life of a gnome; they see and diagram the mechanics of the ingenious gnome technology; They observe how gnomes administer justice in the wild; they are told how fairy tales first began (Little Red Riding Hood was actually a gnome). best of all, they are allowed to see parts of the magical Secret Book...

Subjects range from moose, cave enlargers, a stream goddess, to house warming parties. Mixing in politics and ecology in the softest manner imaginable. A favorite was the TROLL Trap - there are many ways to trap a troll.
