A fascinating look at the art and design of Mr. Moore, who has lifted the window display area of Tiffany's from a hodgepodge of merchandise to a brilliant form of artistic expression and salesmanship. He can take credit for putting belly buttons on mannequins and placing kissing rhinos underneath a Valentine's Day heart, changing portraits of New York City from subway strikes and water shortages to Christmas windows that delight.
"Make people stop" was his motto; his means were passion, intrigue, mystery, the elements that make for good theater--which did not exclude feathers, ice cream cones or pasta as building blocks for visual fantasy. Noted for using concepts or actual works of modern art in his windows, including Jasper Johns, Alexander Ney and Andy Warhol. Some were photographed by Edgar de Evia. Designed sets and costumes for Paul Taylor Dance Company.
He lived in an apartment decorated by Robert Denning in the twin towers of 860 United Nations Plaza until his death. Received tributes from Illuminating Engineering Society and Inspirational Academy of Zurich, amongst many others. Moore was one of a handful of designers, who changed forever the style and concept of window display. No other designer has known how to speak-always with polite elegance-of the realities of modern life.
Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933) known for Tiffany glass, influential designer and America's leading exponent of Art Nouveau. Tiffany Company was also known for interior design, furniture, ceramics, mosaics, jewelry, bronzes, mirrors.
