Rare Heubach Character Head~Scowling Child with Nightcap

This little guy is obviously not happy that bedtime has arrived. As you can see, the shoulderplate is missing and has been 'rebuilt' in a fashion with some sort of plaster gauze. It appears that this material could be easily removed for restoration. It looks like the piece is broken at the neck, and should be an easy rebuild for someone who is experienced in that type of work. When I found him, he was on a small leather body, which was in such bad condition, I was unable to salvage it. I believe the body measured about 6-8" long.

Because of the damage, there are no marks, but I believe this to be a Gebruder Heubach piece. The coloring on this little head is just beautiful. He has deeply blushed cheeks, intaglio blue/grey eyes and fringes of brown hair. His cap is highlighted in peach and the tassel is gilt. The modeling on this piece is really wonderful, with crisp features. The bits of white you see on the sides of his face are bits of plaster residue from the gauze and will come off easily with a damp cloth.

He measures about 4" tall including the plaster gauze. It appears that the remnant of the original shoulderplate underneath the gauze is about an inch shorter, so the actual measurement may be closer to 3".

He's an adorable little thing and will make a cute doll with a bit of restoration.
