Where do I begin to describe this wonderful, early piece? The material is unlike anything I've come across before. It's done in a black and white pattern with large polka dots in the ivory color as well as smaller ivory polka dots within the black coloring. There is a raised design in ivory that runs throughout the piece. The thread used to make the design has a sheen, so may be silk. The blouse is trimmed in lace giving it the appearance of a shawl. The sleeves are trimmed in the same lace. I believe the lace was added at a later date, but it is antique lace, and could be removed if desired as it is attached with large hand stitches. the dress fastens at the neck with a drawstring which is the only fastener.
Neck to waistband measures 6", the sleeves are 4.5 without the lace and 5.75 with the lace. Shoulder to shoulder is 6" and the waist is 3.5". All measurements are taken lying flat.
The condition is excellent...no holes, tears or stains. The lace on one sleeve has a couple of gaps but is securely attached. the lace 'shawl' pins together in the front.
It's a wonderful antique blouse and would be perfect for an early china doll. (The slip on the mannequin is not included)
