I adore the lady dolls made by the various German firms and amongst my favorites are the lovely ladies made by Simon Halbig. These are the old days Barbies and they have such a charming presence! This beautiful 13" example of the popular 1159 model has one of the prettiest faces I have seen on this type of doll. She has big spiral glass blue sleep eyes with their original wax (there is a small amount of paint added to the wax on her right eye), exceptionally lovely bisque and delicate coloring. Her painting is expertly done with fine long lashes and delicate feathered brows. Her mouth is open is four teeth. She is marked 1159 Simon & Halbig S & H 5. There are no hairlines or repairs to this pretty head. There are a couple microscopic pieces of lint that have been baked into the bisque on her left cheek and lower right cheek area but it is so faint and in the making. This is not considered a flaw.
She is on her original composition fully jointed lady body with straight arms. This is just a wonderful body with long slender arms and lower legs. She has the shorter thighs of the flapper dolls. This body has its original finish, there are some areas of age wear to the surface and a chipped finger tip on her right hand but all in all a very lovely lady body.
This lovely lass is wearing a darling yellow antique dress made of cotton with netting and flower trim. She has a wonderful antique velvet bonnet and antique slip and newer underpants. Her stockings are new and she is missing one of her antique shoes. She has a lovely long golden blond mohair replacement wig and her original cardboard pate.
This is such a pretty doll! A wonderful representation of those desirable ladies! c. 1900
