This stunning antique set is really a rare find. It includes the original Marius Hammer case, the large buckle, four matching buttons, the separate buckle attachment and button clips, and a matching brooch.
The set is made of sterling silver with a gold vermeil wash, and is finished with vitreous glass (kiln-fired) enamel in a beautiful shade of kiwi green (close to the vibrant color of new leaves budding on a tree). The buckle and brooch are both accented with dots of pearlescent white enamel. The green translucent enamel is applied over a guilloche (engine-turned) surface on all pieces.
The buckle measures 2 5/8" by 1 5/8" and is in excellent condition. The back is signed "MH 930S" and has the Hammer maker's mark of an "H" bisected vertically by a hammer.
The buttons measure 9/16" in diameter and are each marked "930S" along with the Hammer mark. The set includes four buttons; you will actually be receiving five: one from the original set has a narrow sliver of enamel missing along one edge, and I have a replacement with perfect enamel in a shade just the slightest bit more blue, and with a brighter gold vermeil.
The brooch measures 15/16" by 9/16". The simple c-clasp on the back looks like a very old replacement, but other than that, the piece is perfect. The back is signed "MH 930S."
Finally, the set includes the original, olive-green case, which is lined in cream-colored satin and velvet. The inside of the lid is stamped in gold: "Juveler M. Hammer Strandgadan Bergen." The rare case measures 4 1/8" by 3 3/8" by 1 1/8".
