This striking vintage bracelet is by Aksel Holmsen of Sandefjord, Norway. Made of sterling silver with a burnished, gold vermeil wash, it is finished with vitreous glass (kiln-fired) enamel. The substantial bracelet is composed of seven large quatrefoil links with square panels that alternate between traditional Scandinavian scenic motifs and an art deco design.
The three scenes are the Nordkapp (North Cape, the northernmost point in Norway), an elk-drawn Sami sled, and a Viking ship, all hand-painted in black silhouette against pastel pink and blue backgrounds. The links are framed by scalloped loops in dramatic, contrasting black opaque enamel.
The bracelet has a thumb-tab clasp with a safety catch. It is signed "925S Norne" and "N" in a box. It is in very good condition, with just two superficial flakes to the black enamel on the border (see close-up - it does not go to the metal, and is not visible when worn). The bracelet measures a quite large 8 1/4" (closed circumference) and a shade over 1" wide.
