Old Hand Painted Watercolor CHINESE Silk Scroll, Young Woman, Wisteria, Signed
Condition is excellent with no rips, tears, discoloration, holes or damage. Scroll is made of heavy paper with a faint brocade print fabric overlay - painting is an actual panel of silk mounted into the paper scroll frame - scroll is coiled around a wood roll which is covered with paper - ends are finished with a lovely brocade material - top edge is also stabilized with a wood dowel covered in paper - complete with woven linen cotton tie and mounted cord hanger for display. Background color is a soft blue which compliments the pastel colors of the painting. The paper on the exterior top of the roll across the wood dowel has several areas of rubbing and loss with light wear from storage - none of this shows on the other side or impacts image. Other than a few faint areas of compression crimps along the brocade areas of the edge from rolling and possibly a tan dot from age, it is in amazing condition. There is a piece of original paper mounted on the back top edge which has some faint markings - guessing a title or signature - these are illegible - there is also a faint MADE IN HONG KONG stamp on the top back edge.
My Grandmother purchased this and another scroll on an Asian tour - I believe during the 1940s or 1950s. This is such a lovely pastel watercolor with amazing detail - must have taken so much time to individually paint each leaf of the tree! Visually striking, it would be a wonderful addition to any collection or display!
